Levi’s Boyfriend Jeans Review: Are They Worth It?
I finally bought the Levi's boyfriend jeans. Here's everything you need to know.
I mentioned in a recent post that I'd be adding a pair of boyfriend jeans to my spring wardrobe, and I finally did.
It's no surprise that my go-to brand for all things denim is Levi's. The reason comes down to fit, range of styles, and their consistent quality. It’s one of those brands I keep coming back to.
Over time, I’ve built a small collection, some pieces I still wear on repeat and others I’ve (sadly) outgrown, like the Levi's 70's straight jeans, which I owned in both black and darkwash blue. Unfortunately, they no longer stock that style. While those were high-waisted with a slim straight leg, the boyfriend jeans, which I recently added to my wardrobe of well-made denim, offer something different.
Recently, though, I’ve found myself reaching more for mid-rise styles. Blame it on the comfort of a good fit, but my Levi’s XL jeans have practically become my daily uniform. So naturally, it felt right to add another pair into the rotation. Because honestly, when something works… two is better than one 😉
Why I chose the Boyfriend Jeans
While barrel and balloon-leg jeans are having their moment, the boyfriend fit felt like a more wearable choice, more like me. Effortless, unfussy, and versatile – exactly what I want from my everyday denim.
When I spotted this pair from the Blue Tab line, it immediately ticked all my boxes: the fit, the fabric, and yes, even the price. But as part of Levi's most elevated line, crafted with custom Japanese fabrics, refined details and built-to-last quality, it leans more towards an investment than a splurge. It’s the kind of piece that works harder in your wardrobe over time.
For context, I've had my 1950s 701 for over two years, and they haven't aged one bit.
The Fit: Everything You Need to Know
Let’s get into the details because this is what really matters.
Rise
These are mid-rise, not high-waisted, which means they sit comfortably on the waist without digging in or feeling restrictive.
Fit
The fit is generally relaxed but not slouchy, loose enough but not baggy. It gives you ease of movement without looking sloppy. It's like picking up your partner's jeans and sliding them on for an off-duty style or an effortless look.
Stretch
There's 2% elastane in the fabric, and honestly, you feel it in the best way. It's just enough give for comfort and movement, but not enough to lose its shape.
Leg Shape
The leg shape is the classic straight-leg cut, meaning the width stays consistent from the knee to the hem for a clean, balanced silhouette.
Length
It's currently available in 30" and 32" inseams, which work perfectly for me at 168cm.
Colourways
At the moment, they are available in two colourways: Starboard Mij - Blue, a worn-in, light blue, and Rinse Moj - Blue, which is more of a raw wash or deeper dark indigo.
Does It Make Your Bum Look Good? 👀
So this is the real question. Because of the straight-leg and relaxed fit, these jeans don’t sculpt or lift in the way skinny or curve-fit jeans might. But they do something else instead. They create a soft, tailored shape that still feels flattering.
You still get structure through the hips, but the overall vibe is more relaxed and understated rather than form-fitting. So while it’s not a “snatched” look, it’s definitely flattering in a cool, off-duty way.
Who Is This For (And Who Isn't It For)?
If you prefer: high-waist, curved, body-hugging, slim or more structured fit, this might not be your ideal pair. But if you want something relaxed that still looks intentional and put-together, this delivers.
Petite Girl Tip
If you're petite, opt for the 30" inseam.
Since this is a straight cut silhouette that gives a tailored look, cuffing the hem can help keep your proportions clean. A tapered or slightly cropped version also works well to avoid excess fabric bunching at the ankle.
And of course, tailoring is always an option.
Price and Value
At £230, it sits firmly in premium territory. But as part of Levi’s Blue Tab line, with Japanese fabric and elevated finishing, it feels more like an investment piece than a trend buy.
How They Compare to My Other Levi’s
If you’re familiar with vintage-inspired Levi’s or already own the 1950s 701 jeans, think of these as the more relaxed, everyday alternative, same Levi's DNA, but mid-rise and with a little stretch.
How I Style Them
This is where these jeans really shine ✨ They’re incredibly versatile.
Off-duty: Crewneck tee and sneakers. Simple, effortless, done.
Smart casual: A blazer and low-heeled boots for a polished but relaxed look.
Easy Layers: Camisole and an open shirt, or tied loosely at the waist. Light and easy.
Borrowed-from-the-boys: Racer tank, sneakers and baseball cap. Flawless for a laid-back cool.
Chill days: An oversized check shirt and flats. Comfortable, but put-together look.
Honestly, they’re the kind of jeans that adapt to your mood without trying too hard.
Where to buy in the UK
If you’re based in the UK, you can buy them directly from Levi's online or check availability at your nearest store. It’s always worth popping in if you can, especially with a style like this, where fit and feel make all the difference. If the price point isn't quite right, these are worth considering.
Final Thoughts
These jeans are about comfort, ease of movement, and the kind of confidence that comes from a well-crafted pair that fits just right and is built to last. Relaxed, but still intentional. Simple, but never boring.
They’re also incredibly easy to throw on and make your own. Whether you’re leaning into something more polished, keeping it casual, or dressing for a specific mood or moment, they just work. They adapt without losing their shape or character, which makes styling feel effortless rather than overthought ✨
