Recently, I realised I've finally been consistent with my skincare routine, and honestly, working from home has played a big part in helping me stay on track. I'm excited because this is the first time in a long while that I've followed my regimen faithfully, so I thought, not share it?

I have a combination skin type that is both acne and blemish-prone. To avoid endless guessing and experimentation, I consulted a skin expert who recommended a routine tailored to my skin concerns. Here's the step-by-step routine and the products that have made the most significant difference.

Cleanse

The first step in my skincare routine is cleansing my face with a gentle cleanser to remove sweat, excess oil, and makeup. I use the EltaMD Foaming Facial Cleanser, which is gentle and leaves my skin feeling clean and balanced. I use this cleanser in the morning and at night. The only downside for me is how long it takes to foam, but it does its job beautifully.

Prevent

Next, I use the Skinceuticals Silymarin CF. It's an antioxidant serum explicitly formulated for oily and blemish-prone skin. It contains salicylic acid, vitamin C (ascorbic acid), and ferulic acid, which help minimise blemishes and improve skin texture, fine lines, and wrinkles.
Though my skin is a work in progress, I've definitely noticed a smoother texture and fewer breakouts. I apply three drops of the product to my face and neck daily.

Correct

For my third step, I use the Skinceuticals Discolouration Defense Serum, an acid-based exfoliator that helps unclog my pores. It also helps in improving the blemish scars on my skin. What I like about the product is that it contains key ingredients such as niacinamide and tranexamic acid, two powerhouse ingredients for uneven skin tone. I apply 3 to 5 drops of the product to my face and neck in the morning and at night. And over time, it has helped my dark spots look more even.

Lastly, I lather on sunscreen, and the one I'm using right now is Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 50. I love that it blends effortlessly without leaving a white cast. It's lightweight, hydrating, and perfect for everyday use.

Staying consistent with a skincare routine for acne-prone, combination skin can be challenging, but the right products and a simple step-by-step approach make all the difference. Cleansing gently, using targeted serums, correcting discolouration, and protecting with SPF have helped me maintain clearer, smoother, and healthier-looking skin. If you're looking for a routine that is easy to follow and effective, this simple skincare routine is a great place to start, especially if you're dealing with breakouts, blemishes, or uneven texture.
