No7 Lip Balms Review: Are They Worth It for Dry, Deep Skin Tones?

I tested three No7 lip balms: the Protect & Perfect Lip Care, Age Defying Volumising Treatment, and HydraLuminous Lip Balm. Here's my honest verdict on texture, hydration, and everyday wearability.

No7 Lip Balms Review: Are They Worth It for Dry, Deep Skin Tones?

It's no surprise that I love a good lip balm, especially ones that don't just complement my medium to deep skin-toned lip while flattering my overall complexion, but also soothe, condition, and nourish my lips.

I recently added the three No7 lip products to my collection and put them to the test. And my verdict is in. Here's what I actually have, what I've used, and, most importantly, what I think.

The No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Lip Care

Close up of the No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Lip Care

This was the first one I picked up, and it deserves a proper description because it's unlike any lip product I've used before. It comes in a 10ml tube, but the texture is where things get interesting. This doesn't glide on the way a traditional balm does. There's no smooth, waxy slip. Instead, it has a cream-like, almost lotion-like consistency that applies differently from anything else in my collection. Straight from the tube, it goes on thicker, but I find a finger gives the most even, worked-in finish.

Then there's the scent. Or the taste. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure where one ends and the other begins. It's one of those products where you smell the taste and taste the smell simultaneously — if that makes sense at all. It's not unpleasant, just very present. Very much a sensory experience. It reminded me of the first time I tried the Augustinus Bader Universal Lip Balm, but once it's on, you feel it.

My lips felt a slight tightening sensation on first application, followed by a noticeably conditioned, smooth, hydrated finish. It contains lipopeptides and antioxidants, which means it's a treatment product. You can find it on the No7 website* if you want to take a closer look.

That said, it's not something I reach for quickly. The application requires a little intention, which makes it better suited to an evening routine than a midday touch-up. This one lives on my bedside shelf for nighttime use.

No7 Age Defying Volumizing Lip Treatment

The No7 Protect & Perfect and Age Defying Volumizing Lip Treatment

This one I've been reaching for more regularly, though not quite as often as the HydraLuminous lip balm (more on that below).

The texture here is closer to a serum than a balm. It's lightweight, high-performance fluid, and applied via a twist-up silicone tip applicator. The application is smooth and precise, and I didn't notice any discernible scent.

What I did notice was a mild warming sensation on my lips that lasted a few seconds after applying. It wasn't uncomfortable, well, more like a gentle activation signal. My lips felt plumper and more hydrated afterwards.

This product is formulated with pro-age benefits in mind. It targets the vertical lines that can appear around and on the lips over time, supports lip volume, and addresses fine lines, so the warmth isn't incidental; it's part of how it works. I use this either in my nighttime routine or as a first step before layering a lip balm during the day. You can shop it via my No7 link* for a reader discount.

No7 HydraLuminous Lip Balm

My most-used everyday balm from the No7 range

This is one of my everyday reach. The one that lives in my bag.

It comes in five shades, and I picked up three: caramel*, nude* and raspberry*. The texture is what you'd expect from a classic lip balm: smooth, glide-on, comfortable. There's a subtle scent, nothing overpowering, and it leaves a soft wash of colour that's understated and wearable. However, if you want more depth, build it up with two to three layers.

This is the one I'd recommend as a starting point if you're new to the No7 lip range. It's the least fussy, the most versatile, and the most likely to slot naturally into any routine. Shop it via my No7 link* for a reader discount.

My Verdict

These three products serve different purposes.

The Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Lip Care is a treatment, not a casual balm. It's best for nighttime, or when you have a moment to apply it properly. Worth it for seriously dry or neglected lips.

The Age Defying Volumizing Treatment is for anyone thinking about lip lines or wanting a plumping effect. Use it as a base or as part of a more intentional routine.

The HydraLuminous is your everyday lip balm. No fuss, real hydration, and a hint of colour that works across deep skin tones without looking ashy or disappearing entirely. There are five colours to pick from. It falls right into the same category as the everyday staples I tend to keep in rotation.
